nikon d3100 vs. d300s 720p comparison test

This video contains a series of comparison clips of the Nikon D3100 and the D300s in their respective 720p movie recording modes

the main reason I created this video was to test whether there is any advantage in me upgrading the 3 Nikon D300s I use for remote stills, video and time-lapse use to the Nikon D3100 camera

the main advantages of the D3100 are size, cost and the new movie mode which includes a new 1080 resolution mode and which records video using H.264 compression rather than the antiquated Motion-JPEG of the D300s

my conclusions from the tests are:
1) the D3100 exhibits a visible resolution/compression advantage in 720p movie mode
2) the D3100 LCD screen is lower resolution and more difficult to focus/preview
3) the D3100 includes a 1080 recording mode that the D300s does not have
4) the D3100 is significantly cheaper and lighter so is ideal for remote camera use
